Fleet Damage Control Officer - Naval High Performance Team Facilitator
-
Dec 2015 - Apr 2018
The role is responsible for developing high preforming Command Teams and Crews of NZ Navy Ships, so that they are able to respond to complex and ambiguous situations in preparation for Naval Operations around the Globe. This is facilitated through scenarios based on at sea emergencies (Fires, floods, toxic gas incidents, fuel and oil spills, HAZMAT response, collisions and groundings) up to and including War time damage (missile strikes, mass causality events, Submarine attacks etc). This requires managing a number of sometimes incompatible priorities with limited resources. Whilst this has specific aims for training ships crews in Damage Control the value in this training is that personnel are taken through a phased approach of increasing complexity that allows them to develop their skill sets and agile decision making in a controlled and safe way. This training develops all personnel regardless of their experience to perform at their absolute best in highly stressful situation thus developing resilience and capacity. Develop these people into a team and the result is a highly effective Ship and Defence Force ready for operations. This is training achieved through coaching and mentoring techniques, process analysis, systems analysis, policy advice and development.
