A concept Bud had envisioned during his years as a horseman and farrier — utilizing compound leverage in a farrier tool — became a reality in 1993. Bud invented and patented a hoof nipper, promptly dubbed the “Bud Nipper.” The hoof nipper became Bud’s “late” life passion as he built his small business into a website sales business known as Bud’s Horseshoeing Equipment, a business still operating through his children and grandchildren.

Organized the “Rose Roping Club” turning attention to the more conservative rodeo events such as roping and bulldogging. He honed his skills as a horseman, always competing on one horse while keeping an eye out for the next project horse. One of his most prized accomplishments was a young quarter horse named Dugan that he owned, trained, competed on and later sold to a talented young bulldogger who took him on to become the Nebraska State Bulldogging Champion.
