    I contribute to NRI’s research and development work in the area of grain postharvest science as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering NRI’s postharvest loss reduction programme. I also undertake consultancy missions in support of grain commodity management for the World Food Programme, development and commercial operations. I lead the APHLIS+ project which develops the African Postharvest Losses Information System over 5 years, funded by the Gates Foundation. APHLIS provides science-based estimates of losses for cereals in Africa, and the project will widen the remit to other crops, express losses also in nutritional and financial terms, reinforce the underlying model and the data used, and develop the user interface. I help develop the NRI’s reputation in postharvest science through high quality publications like the Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard. I am involved in preparing results of NRI research and consultancy programmes for wider communication to different audiences. I also contributed to teaching, training and curriculum development for both short and long term courses in the area of grain postharvest science, including PhD and MSc supervision.

    At AfricaRice, I worked in the Green Innovation Centre team on projects developing innovative methods for the dissemination of innovations. My responsibilities were as follows:- Select a technology, create a methodology, associated processes and a team, to develop and manage a programme of e-learning courses for vocational training- Elaborate vocational training curricula and corresponding e-learning courses in collaboration with agricultural colleges- Contribute to the design of services and in particular data gathering and management procedures to allow for the production of target group specific information products, monitoring and impact assessment- Improve the understanding of innovation processes and in particular of postharvest activities through scientific analysis- Exchange with scientist at AfricaRice and in the NARS for the identification and design of services that accelerate the innovation process for the benefit of the rural poor and generate employment in the agricultural sector- Contribute to the continuous improvement of services, the operation framework and partnerships for innovation and scaling- Systematically evaluate feedback from beneficiaries, identify knowledge gaps, highlight research needs and formulate recommendations for the improvement of the enabling environment- Promote the activities of the green innovation center and explore options to link with other partners in development and contribute to resource mobilization.
