I worked in a lab that would organize cases of sutures with samples of the different size and type of Johnson & Johnson medical facility surgical stitching thread. There were many varieties of sutures to examine and my job was to pen log into a ledger all appropriate descriptive data found, determine the accuracy of the labeling of the product, assure that the thickness was the proper gauge, assure that the batch that was to be inspected was appropriate for the current product order, prove that the product had an unique suture ID, record the date, time, and quantity of all pieces in a batch that was inspected. It was particularly important to distinguish between the regular suture and the disintegrating suture of the same girth and color.

Lab Technician

May 1978 - Jan 1980
This was my first experience working in a laboratory environment where boxes of product was brought to me each week to analyze in an effort to improve the durability of the material. The lab was the Plaster Cast lab and it was my job to develop exothermic cast tests by moistening batch samples of material and poking holes in it while timing the intermittent task. Once enough holes were perforated, I would record the length of time it would take for the holes to close completely. This data was then recorded in a ledger with the date, the time, my signature and my employee ID number. I worked in a small three person lab so each of us had separate individual projects and we each were left to complete our work without in lab supervision.
