Manager Stability Control
-
Mar 2011 - Oct 2014
My first proper management role, leading an incredible team of capable and tolerant engineers developing industry-leading stability and traction control systems. Learned a lot about the power of people development, and a little about stability control. And got to drive some great cars.Managing teams of up to 20 Stability Control application engineers, providing leadership to the development and delivery of vehicle performance across all Jaguar Land Rover products. Major achievements included:• Gained alignment in a new approach to development and validation, including supplier engagement, reducing reliance on physical vehicle testing through use of simulation • Led department restructuring (75 heads) and culture-shift to increase delivery efficiency and discipline• Established a new data analysis team, including defining vision, recruiting and upskilling within 6 months

Project Leader Advanced Chassis
-
2007 - Mar 2011
Worked with some very clever people and great companies exploring cutting-edge suspension and steering technologies. Proud to also see some of these into production. An engineer’s dream. Learned a lot about project management, and a little about control systems.Leading all activities investigating advanced steering and suspension systems for Jaguar Land Rover applications. Major achievements included:• Successfully negotiated and agreed trade-offs between Performance, programme Content and Costs to achieve system "Implementation Ready" status.• Led a pan-brand Ford team investigating electric power assisted steering for the mid-size and luxury vehicle classes. This team was located on four sites in three countries.• Managed supplier selection activities with four major European suppliers, covering commercial and technical topics and agreeing a cross-brand strategy.• Introduced departmental communications and people development improvements.

Vehicle Dynamics Attribute Leader Steering
-
2003 - 2007
Brilliant to feel part of a world-class team, developing and tuning chassis systems on some great vehicles. I learned a lot about being an engineer and the power of six-sigma, and a little about vehicle dynamics.Including, in 2005, a 6-month period as stand-in group leader to the 16-strong Vehicle Dynamics team.Main role as lead engineer for the steering attribute within Vehicle Dynamics:• Integrated system-level development activities to deliver vehicle-levelperformance.• Delivered vehicle-level performance through the appropriate use of allavailable methods and tools. This included subjective and objective testing andCAE simulation.• Introduced changes to production vehicle specifications to reduce warrantyclaims whilst maintaining Vehicle Dynamics performance.• Implemented improvements to the generic development processes andcreated new measurement methods and targets.
