    Gateway Decathlon is a new design-build competition and public exhibition event that challenges multidisciplinary university teams to demonstrate innovation in the design and construction of housing. The Gateway Decathlon will be held in late September / early October 2025 adjacent to the iconic Gateway Arch National Park on the Mississippi riverfront in St. Louis, Missouri.Gateway Decathlon is an important aspect of the Gateway South Design & Construction Innovation District currently under development in St. Louis, Missouri. Gateway South will be the first-ever geographic hub dedicated to construction industry advancement. It will bring together suppliers, manufacturers and builders and have tailored facilities, logistics infrastructure, and programs that enable effective offsite construction and catalyze innovation more broadly within the district.

    As the Program Manager for the Virginia Tech Center for Design Research, Bobby is in charge of all projects through the Center. His involvement during his undergraduate career has led him to return to Virginia Tech to teach within the School of Architecture + Design while continuing his research into prefabrication and intelligent infrastructure.In November of 2018, FutureHAUS Dubai won first place in the inaugural Solar Decathlon Middle East competition held in Dubai, UAE as the only United States entrant. Bobby was responsible for the coordination of the design, fabrication, and assembly of the project as well as the logistics of shipping the project, developing an AR and VR model of the project and managing the team. He was a part of the marketing and fundraising campaign raising over 2.5 million USD for the project.After Dubai, FutureHAUS was displayed as the Design Pavilion NYC during New York City’s Design Week in Times Square, New York attracting over 100,000 visitors over 2 weeks. Throughout the summer of 2019, FutureHAUS was on display in Alexandria, VA at the site of the new Virginia Tech Innovation Campus.Parallel research projects include a Disaster Relief prototype for FEMA and HUD, hospitality and healthcare applications, and urban scale developments utilizing the modular cartridge concept. At Virginia Tech, he helps lead the Digital Mentors Collaborative Organization (DMCO), which is a student-led group introducing and reinforcing the implementation of digital methods for design and fabrication.

    As a member of the Design Studio at Perkins+Will Dallas, Bobby is fully integrated into every market sector. Generating initial, conceptual designs for pursuits and competitions, he uses digital and physical modeling techniques such as laser cutting, 3D printing and renderings to convey ideas clearly to the client. Bobby is involved from Conceptual Design through Construction Administration to ensure the best possible design is delivered. He implements sustainable practices into his designs to enhance the user experience and surrounding environment.During his time at Perkins+Will, he has had the opportunity to become involved in inter-office committees as well as community outreach programs. As the office’s CANstruction Team Captain, he coordinated the design, delivery and construction of “Mamma Don’t Let Their Babies Grow Up To Be Hungry”, which won the Best Use of Label and donated a record-breaking 10,240 cans to the North Texas Food Bank. He is a member of the ‘Service +’ organization, which initiates and coordinates the office’s volunteer opportunities. Through this organization, he has been involved in Hearts for Hammers, and the Salvation Army. Internally, Bobby is a member of the Sport+Rec committee that assembles inter-office events, parties, and competitions to build camaraderie amongst co-workers. Outside the office, Bobby has been involved in the ACE mentorship program, which engages high school students in the discussions on Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. Bobby was recently a part of the ‘You’ve Got 5 Minutes, Kid’ (YG5MK) lecture series, where emerging professionals gave a PechaKucha style presentation on a topic of their choosing. He chose to speak about the future of the factory’s role in the fabrication of our cities and our society.This year, Bobby is also a member of the Form Follows Fitness 5K committee member through the Dallas Center for Architecture.

    Project manager of the applied research team during a three-week intensive workshop, developing a system of prefabricated modules for low to high-density housing. Led the team in collaboration efforts with SOM performance teams, structural engineers, space planners, and urban planners to develop a prototypical unit to showcase the adaptability of the concept based on a variety of environmental and geographic constraints.

Developed and constructed a presentation model for a hotel project in Saudi Arabia.
