I joined the Smile 90.4FM team two months before going live in March 2013, helping to lay the foundation for our systems, training staff and testing infrastructure. It was my fourth time as part of the launch team of a major media outlet.I anchored the flagship show – Smile Breakfast for ten years. The show evolved into a fun, pacy, topical, entertaining, diverse, quirky, intelligent and very familiar part of Cape Town's mornings. As the flagship show, I contributed significantly to growing the newcomer, Smile 90.4 FM's listenership to over 200 000 in under five years, in a very crowded and competitive market.I did this with the help of a few milestone features, such as "Bekkig" (hilarious kids' comment on current affairs), a weekly car review and the iSmile Tech Report, which simplified complicated tech news and jargon by making it relevant and accessible. I produced and presented the feature, which navigated a broad spectrum of technological news with daily themes, ie Mondays – gadgets; Tuesdays – biotech/medical; Wednesdays – digital; Thursdays – tech entrepreneurial; Fridays – space tech. The iSmile Report was a finalist in the Communications division of the NSTF-BHP Billiton Awards 2014 in the fields of Engineering, Technology and Innovation: https://bit.ly/2Yh6gdUI am in the process of expanding this content into a dedicated website - www.geeksquad.co.za - which is under construction as of June 2023.I am a MTN Journalist of the Year Award winning news writer/presenter.

I started at Primedia as a reporter and stand-in anchor at the groundbreaking Radio 702 in Johannesburg, Gauteng. When Primedia won the license for the first ever talk radio station in Cape Town, I was seconded to be part of the set-up and launch team for 567MW Cape Talk. In my time there, I was a reporter, producer, presenter, news anchor and assignments editor.I briefly left to form part of the launch team for the new and innovative TV breakfast show (AM2Day on SABC2) and returned in January 2001.I left again a year later to join the Western Cape region's biggest independent Adult Contemporary music radio station - KFM 94.5 as a news anchor and assignments editor.KFM was later bought by Primedia, bringing me back into the fold of my previous employer.

* I was one of the intrepid presenters on AM2Day - often quoted as "the SABC's most innovative and memorable breakfast show ever." It pioneered live television content, by crossing between three regional studios (each with several presenters) and three field presenters every morning from 6am to 9am. One of THE most celebrated events I did, was to travel from the northern-most tip of Africa, to the southern-most in 4X4s, broadcasting live from a different country every second day.* I worked as an insert presenter/producer for MNet’s magazine show “Front Row” and presented several inserts on eTV shows. * I presented the insert "Off the Couch" for the SABC2's adventure/magazine show "LiveWire."* I have also been correspondent for several international TV stations, including CNBC and ABC in the U.S. * I was the Cape Town presenter for the global TV broadcast of New Year's Eve 1999. Each hour of the (Y2K) broadcast came from a different city - starting at midnight in that particular city.
