Manager, Data Warehouse Development / Systems Architecture / Data Management
-
Dec 2008 - Jun 2016
While leading several teams and departments, I acted as the strategic data architect. I reviewed most major design enhancements related to expansion of the data warehouse environment and central customer databases to ensure alignment with original strategies and conformance to the data modeling principles.I managed a team of Informatica ETL developers, data analysts/modelers, testers and a project manager to move data from various source systems into our integrated operational data store, data warehouse and data mart environment. We were also responsible for Deere Financial’s centralized customer database environment for which I either created or assisted data designing and modeling. As a working manager, I managed a team of senior technology architects responsible for establishing architecture strategies and aligning projects with them. I personally provided direction on IT data architecture strategies and worked with data analysts/modelers across all projects to ensure data models align with subject area strategies and balanced long term business flexibility with technical difficulty in maintaining and using data.Provided leadership to a team of 11 data analysts/modelers. This team was responsible for the design of data structures within all developed systems and data consistency across all systems to facilitate improved efficiency in gaining information insights in managing business processes. Based on my many years of data modeling experience, I coached the team in data modeling to transform the team from theoretical focused design approaches to business value and flexibility approaches.

Data Architect / Data Warehouse Technical Lead / Senior Data Analyst
-
Feb 1999 - Dec 2008
I began as the data analyst on the first data warehouse project. Using PowerDesigner, I designed and modeled the operational data store (ODS), data warehouse and data mart databases. The ODS consolidated data for various financial credit products; the data warehouse kept history; and the data mart invoked a star schema design to maximize query efficiency. I utilized the appropriate data design techniques in each data store for its purpose within the data architecture. I also wrote may of the data movement specifications for ETL. In support of designing the data mart appropriately, I communicated with the business users in understanding their reporting requirements. As a result of my leadership, I became responsible for the entire architecture and business requirements gathering. At a critical juncture, I convinced senior IT management of the benefits of an infrastructure containing the ODS. I provided the visionary work from which this effort established the view of customer across all credit products and became the key IT architecture piece allowing the company to become a customer focused organization. As I took on additional responsibilities, I personally developed information integration strategy that defined the strategic approach for managing data subjects to maximize business efficiency. The strategy was approved by IT leadership and used by business leaders in planning conversations.
