National Fleet and Operations Manager, University Program
-
Jul 2010 - Aug 2011
In July, 2010, I returned to Boston to lead operations for the National University Program which encompassed more than 700 vehicles at 220 schools in more than 30 states across all US times zones. My goal was to standardize operations and build a strong base to scale accounts and overall fleet by 30% YoY. This required a rethink of the team structure and coverage, the development of new vendor guidelines and resources, as well as a review and ranking of existing partner schools. By providing enhanced support to our university partners, we were able to increase utilization and revenue, decrease downtime, and cement Zipcar as the nation's leading car-sharing service on college campuses.

Manager, Fleet and Operations, Chicago
-
May 2006 - Jul 2010
I relocated to Chicago in May, 2006 as the operations lead to launch the market. By September 1, our fleet was 100 cars strong and supported by a team of key hires in marketing, operations and member services. With a zone-based approach to the city, I planned the expansion into critical neighborhoods with consideration for utilization, marginal revenue to support future expansion, and strong competition from a local operator. Zipcar Chicago was a blank slate and I ensured the team focused on building the operation on a solid foundation from which we would scale. In 2006, car-sharing was still a relatively unproven concept and the Chicago team led the way in developing and sharing SOPs, best practices and tools with other Zipcar markets. By the end of my tenure, the Chicago operation was profitably running more than 600 cars throughout greater Chicagoland.

Fleet Operations Coordinator, Boston
-
Apr 2004 - May 2006
Unsure if car-sharing would survive as a viable business - but convinced that it should - I joined the operations team in 2004 to help figure out how to manage a disparate fleet of 200 wirelessly connected vehicles across metro-Boston. I helped hire, train and motivate a crew of five fleet cyclists and a network of vendors to perform preventative maintenance, accident repair and roadside assistance. As the fleet grew to 360 cars by the end of 2005, I managed the vendor relationships that proved critical to the success of our developing operation. Our team wrote the playbook for managing a distributed fleet of vehicles in a city, and we shared that with all Zipcar markets to great benefit.
