2003 - Present
Since I have retired, I have turned to writing literary biography (Karin Michaelis, Felix Salten, Erika and Klaus Mann), and World War II History (Camp Sharpe, Camp Ritchie). I have just completed a book, "Ritchie Boy Secrets," a World War II history of the Military Intelligence Training Center in Camp Ritchie, Maryland. In my works I explore how the lives of individuals intersect with historical events.

I taught courses in German language, literature, and culture, first, as assistant professor (1973-1977), then as associate professor (1983-1994), then as professor (1994-2003). I helped set up a partnership program with the University of Bremen and did early pioneering work in transcontinental German class instruction.
