    I am part of the Airfield Operations Team and am responsible for the effective management of the aerodrome operational environment. My responsibilities include maintaining a bird deterrent habitat on the airfield and surrounding 13km radius. The maintenance of grassed areas in compliance with the long grass policy and wildlife hazard management plans (Cardiff and St Athan) and civil aviation publication. This includes high standards of husbandry on the runway, taxiways, maintenance areas and aprons with specialised tractor towable grass toppers that keep the grass between 150mm - 200mm to deter birds on the airfield.I assist in a 13km radius bird monitoring to ensure we are aware of possible nesting sites in the local quarry, power station and various water and food sources and move birds that could have potential to affect the live runway.I am responsible for all Pesticide and Herbicide applications, Anti icing application in winter months and all the stock records.Undertake maintenance to hedges on and off the airfield and repair fences, signs and various other repairs that I am required to do.I am responsible for winter operations providing Anti icing to the Runway and taxiways when necessary and if there is a need in a snow event provide snow clearing with specialised equipment to sweep and blow the runway and taxiways clean.I escort various contractors, who require access to airside locations, using local knowledge of the airfield I assist with ongoing works and projects.Assist with other departments within the airport to supply driving of a forklift, supply equipment and labour.
