Responsible for representing the mining industry in Canada and internationally to both the stakeholders and federal government as well as leading the development and implementation of MAC’s Towards Sustainable Mining Initiative and International Social Responsibility Strategy, both of which have strong environmental and social elements. Specific responsibilities include liaising with representatives from all levels of government and collaborating with a range of stakeholders; providing expertise, advisory services, advocacy and training on issues including corporate social responsibility, human rights, transparency, sustainability reporting (Towards Sustainable Mining); community and aboriginal engagement, tailings, water, and biodiversity management, energy and greenhouse gas management and crisis planning. Additional responsibilities include managing and facilitating committees comprised of representatives from MAC member companies and MAC’s Communities of Interest Advisory Panel, government advocacy, communicating with the media, and acting as a centre of expertise on a broad range of environmental issues in support of other MAC staff.
