    Health Midwest, a comprehensive health delivery system serving the Kansas City metropolitan area and outlying regions in Missouri and Kansas was made up of general acute hospitals, home health agencies, physician clinics, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation and behavioral health centers, numerous out patient facilities, medical office buildings, and a broad spectrum of other health services. Mr. Seward was senior vice president of government affairs for Health Midwest and its predecessor organization Research Health Services. Barry previously held a number of other positions including senior vice president of marketing at Research Health services (RHS), president of Research Downtown Health Care Center, president of Health Related Services, Inc. and president of HealthPlus Fitness & Wellness Center.. In addition, Mr. Seward served on the board of directors of Health Midwest Development Group, Research Development Group, Research Ventures Group, Research Mental Health Services, Trinity Lutheran Manor, HealthPlus Fitness and Wellness Center, Health Related Services and Research Downtown Health Care Center. Health Midwest was sold to HCA in 2003 for 1.1 billion dollars.

    Swope Ridge pioneered innovative aging programs and services, skilled nursing care, residential care, in-home services and community programs. The not-for-profit health center was also a respected federal demonstration-site and regional training center. Mr. Seward followed founder and mentor Albert G. Incani as Swope Ridge Executive Director. Barry held several administrative positions including assistant administrator, administrator and executive director during the period of 1967-1979. He also served several years as a member of the board of directors. Now years later Barry's son Michael is a member of the Swope Ridge board and serves as a board officer.
