- Pioneered an approach for untargeted, in-process, intracellular analysis from small numbers of cells sampled directly from bioprocessing systems. Demonstrated the ability of this process analytical technology to assess trajectories of cell growth and development on the time scale of internal metabolic processes with negligible perturbation of the biomanufacturing workflow, capabilities not realized by state-of-the-art cell characterization methods. - Conceptualized, designed, and developed a manufacturing process for microfabricated cell processing devices with integrated capabilities for cell isolation, pre-concentration, and extraction. The device is integrated into a sample-to-analysis microfluidic workflow that replaces all manual sample preparation, enabling at-line electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS).- Detected biochemicals indicative of transient cell states while preserving links to underlying biochemical processes by cross-referencing multivariate analyses with metabolic pathway analyses. Correlated dynamic metabolic processes with phenotypic changes using off-line characterization methods and demonstrated the ability to detect such changes at early time points while reducing the analytical time and resources required by conventional methods.- Invented continuous-flow cold induced phase separation scheme (µCIPS) for in-line sample conditioning of ESI-MS workflows. This novel, microfluidic-based, liquid-liquid extraction scheme enables efficient and rapid analysis of complex biochemical mixtures on very short time scales (< 1 min) and from minimal sample volumes (ca. nL) compared to existing separation schemes.

- Co-originator of US Navy approved calculation packages demonstrating structural adequacy of the pressure hull of a new class of ballistic missile submarines.- Developed the design, both conceptual and detailed, and received approval of numerous ship systems and components as member of interdisciplinary design team while adhering to stringent design constraints and ensuring interface compatibility with surrounding systems.- Returned to first principal approaches to justify and validate designs that were technically sound but failed the simplified design methodology; identified opportunities for automation of redundant work and subsequently initiated process improvements including creation of multiple CAE automation scripts.

- Developed and managed independent research project based on concept of my own creation to investigate alternate design techniques for sustained supercavitation without external ventilation supplies- Successfully demonstrated ventilated supercavitation in a novel cavitation chamber at a fraction of the cost of “professional” cavitation centers; designed, fabricated, and evaluated three supercavitating nozzle designs over a range of operating conditions - Served as substitute lecturer for undergraduate heat transfer and thermodynamics classes
