As the National DRR Program Coordinator, the main task was formulating a comprehensive DRR approach including Response, Recovery and Preparedness policy and strategy for SI Pakistan community based programming, and integrating DRR into current and future programs. This involved advising staff on DRR programming, budgeting and implementation, drafting DRR proposals (ECHO, DIPECHO and SDC) and assisting in the development of other sector’s proposals in terms of integrating DRR into their proposals. Other core tasks included supporting DRR to be present in the overall response strategy in accordance with the DRR mandate by maintaining relationships with other international NGOs, government (NDMA, PDMAs & DDMAs) and other partners and inter-agency mechanisms to ensure coherent and widely accepted approaches.

Also conducted risk analyses of new projects with partner through Oxfam Novib toolbox, and coordinated at multiple levels with other humanitarian actors and represent Oxfam Novib at different forums

As Sr. Program Manager, I coordinated with National Society (PRCS) DRM staff to conduct timely and comprehensive post disaster needs assessments in Pakistan and assisted in the development of operational plans and emergency appeals, promoted IFRC’s disaster preparedness and response tools such as Field Assessment and Coordination Team (FACT), RDRT, Emergency Response Units (ERU), Disaster Emergency Response Fund (DREF) and Disaster Management Information System (DMIS), and strengthened capacity of PRCS by development of relevant DRM trainings and material for building strong program and project teams.Key achievements were;• 2009 PRCS Disaster Risk Management Working Group (2009): Formation of the PRCS National DRM Working group for the mainstreaming of DRR activities in all PRCS projects and programmes.• 2009 Branch Disaster Response Team (2009): Led Technical: conducted five provincial branch level training and trained 150 PRCS staff and volunteers as BDRT members.• 2008 Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) DRR Strategy (2008) Developed PRCS 5 years DRR Programme strategy (2009-2013)• 2008 Hazard, Vulnerable & Capacity Assessment (HVCA): As Lead facilitator conducted HVCA training for the Senior Management Team and Field Teams of PRCS and the IFRC staff and volunteers. • PRCS/IFRC National CBDRM Program, Pakistan. This involvement the establishment of a network of 37 Disaster Risk Management Cells in the 37 vulnerable districts of Pakistan for roll out of CBDRM programming.
