Stage 4 Vehicle Dynamics (Mechanical) Team Leader
-
Aug 2019 - Jul 2020
The Vehicle dynamics team was responsible for the study of engineering design principles which underpinned the performance, ride quality, and handling characteristics of racing vehicles. This meant the team had to investigate the relationship and interaction between forces and moments through different systems, such as suspension, powertrain, steering and tyres to produces an optimized design. This ensured NR11 did not suffer from the same Vehicle Dynamics deficiency which plagued NRX.The project consisted of four mechanical-based project areas. The first project area was to redesign NRX’s monocoque chassis to incorporate a rear tubular chassis for NR11. This included implementing the first single push rod system with a single spring – damper for the rear suspension. The second project area was to conduct research into and testing of double wishbone suspension using rubber springs was undertaken. Rubber strings unit weight was found to be higher however achieved significant cost saving over NRX’s design and offered greater adjustability. The third project was manufacturing new titanium wheel packages, which achieved weight savings of 43% on the front and 75% on the rear. The final project area was to re-design the head restraint system and ergonomics to maximise the overall vehicle centre of gravity and drivability through prioritised driver position using US 95th percentile male data.As team leader, I was responsible for ensuring the five team members communicated and worked effectively to complete the project on schedule and to the required standards. Enthesis on end-to-end project ownership and encouraging collaboration to ensure unity of design.

I was responsible for the maintenance and servicing of between 5 to 10vehicles per day. During this time, I prioritised my work schedule to provide a safe, effectiveand quick vehicle turnover time and liaised with industry suppliers and customers. Anintegral part of the role required me to diagnose vehicle faults, further developing myproblem-solving skill set.

My role and responsibilities within the investment team were wide ranging. On a day-to-day basis, I managed client relationships, routinely interacting with high-net-worth individual clients, and communicating financial details to wealth managers. Additionally, I performed complimentary market analysis, delivered company profiles, collated financial data, and updated Clients’ portfolios. This honed my numerical, communication and interpersonal skills within a fast moving business. Working alongside and learning from respected industry specialists I established a sound understanding of how to link economic theories, to the movement of the equities asset class and changing interest rates. At the end of my internship, I produced and presented to the UBS Private Client Division Directors two investment portfolios optimised for investor investment style and risk tolerances. The diversity of responsibilities and trust refined my ability to work efficiently and anticipate subtle changes and movement effectively in a demanding and highly regulated professional environment.

I worked as a Sales Attendant over two university summer holidays. I enjoyed my time atTrader Joes, working with a close knit team. During my time here I learnt how to operate anIT based stock tracking system, and was awarded the extra responsibility for commoditytracking and resupply. Commodity tracking and resupply ensured that the correct producestock levels where ordered to maximise store profit by reducing waste produces.
