Touchstone TV company for ‘The Do-Gooders’ BBC1; Harris Museum, Preston, ‘Northern Revolutionaries’ exhibition, People’s History Museum (PHM), Manchester, ‘Death and the Working Class’ exhibition; designing and curating PHM ‘Temperance and the Working Class’ exhibition, July 2012 – Feb 2013; appearances on Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, You and Yours and many BBC local radio programmes, and appearances on The One Show, Antiques Road Trip, and BBC North West regional TV news programmes. I have filmed for projects with ‘Big Heritage CIC,’ a social enterprise company working with heritage and communities, and my most recent TV appearance was on Series 3 of ‘A House Through Time’ episode 3, shown June 2020 (Twenty Twenty for the BBC). In February 2022 the episode of 'In Our Time' (BBC R4) featured me in discussion with two other temperance history scholars.

Invited papers at Leeds Metropolitan University, Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool John Moores University, Edge Hill University, Birkbeck College, University of London, John Cabot University, Rome; series of public lectures in Harris Museum, Preston and People’s History Museum, Manchester; public debates/talks in many national Humanities and Science Festivals and local history societies over the last 15 years.Conference keynote ‘Drink and Temperance in nineteenth-century Ireland’ (2016, OU/PRONI). I have presented many papers at conferences across the UK and North America, as well as in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Italy. I have been awarded several grants, including £50,000 from the UK Heritage Lottery Fund and smaller amounts from the British Academy, the Alcohol and Drugs History Society and Alcohol Research UK. I was awarded a Curran Fellowship 2019-20, with associated research grant, from the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals. I am active on social media, and am approaching 1K followers on Twitter, tweeting as demon_drink
