The world's largest truck convoy is a one day celebration of the partnership between the trucking industry and Special Olympics. Each year almost 200 trucks gather to parade through the streets of Dartmouth in one of the most anticipated convoys of its kind. On four years we have raised over $180,000 to support Special Olympics programs across Nova Scotia.

Director of Marketing and Communications
-
Jan 2001 - Sep 2018
My role with Special Olympics is expansive in nature and content. With a small office staff, do it all appears to be our umbrella. As the Communications Director of the provincial body, I oversee our brand integrity, compliance and public use and lead all media campaigns and social media platforms. Oversee and manage philanthropic donations, relationships and gifts to the organization, including stewardship, recognition, relationship management and giving campaigns. This also includes overseeing and managing all national partnerships and ensuring all commitments under the partnership agreement were fulfilled. As the Director of Events, I lead all provincial fundraising events, including our annual gala, truck convoy, lotteries, and marathon and work with third-party groups. This involves recruitment, planning and execution of all events where I sit as the chair for most. As part of a multi-sport charity, we execute yearly provincial games that welcome approximately 1500 volunteers throughout the weekend. I work with my colleagues to help recruit, train and oversee the volunteers assigned to the portions I support (Medical, transport, meals, medals, victory dance, welcome committee, media, photography). Fund Development involves working to meet our provincial fundraising budget through events, major gifts, sponsorship and memorial donations.Volunteer Management involves engaging our volunteers in appropriate roles according to their needs and volunteer experience under the fundraising and development initiatives. Training, education and partnerships are crucial to fostering the volunteer resources necessary to make a not-for-profit organization successful. Administration duties encompass all event administration, tax receipts, privacy laws, presentations, donations, and proposals. I also mentor and guide our student volunteers to ensure a positive yet productive experience within our office environment.
