    As part of my Master's program, I completed a 225-hour internship at Summa Health System's Women's Resource Center. A major component of my internship was to assist in the planning and execution of the annual Women's Weekend Health Retreat for 150 women from the greater Akron, Ohio area. Other accomplishments included the preparation of a capacity analysis for an operating unit of the Resource Center and identification of potential proivders for Summa to partner with in a proposed new facility. At the conclusion of my internship, I was offered full-time employment as a Health Educator for Summa Health System.

    Initially hired as the Corporate Internal Auditor, I successfully created a new internal audit function within this public company. Six months later, I was promoted to the role of Corporate Accounting Manager. In this capacity, I effectively managed the accounting, payroll, accounts payable and fixed assets functions for the Corporate Headquarters. One year later, I was again promoted to the role of Assistant Corporate Controller. In this position, I successfully managed the accounting, budgeting and forecasting for the Corporate Headquarters. This involved research and resolution of accounting and reporting issues both at the Corporate level and with subsidiary finance groups across the country. I also worked closely with Legal Counsel regarding highly confidential executive compensation accounting and reporting matters.In 1994, at the request of the CFO and Controller, I assumed responsibility for leading a full-time team of professionals in a company-wide financial reengineering project that resulted in a 30% reduction in operating costs for the areas reengineered. Upon completion of the project, I assumed the position of Assistant Treasurer where I successfully oversaw the management of daily cash requirements and cash investments. I was also part of a team responsible for the completion and submission of financial external reporting requirements including the annual report and SEC 10-K and 10-Q reporting.National Education Corporation was acquired by Harcourt General, Inc. in 1997. Harcourt General was later acquired by Houghton Mifflin in 2012. The combined companies now operate as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

    I was hired directly after college graduation by Arthur Andersen into their Dallas Audit Practice. Under the direction of local partners, I was responsible for the execution of fieldwork for various audit and consulting engagements. My consulting projects ranged from the preparation of operating strategy recommendations and feasibility studies to the overall coordination of multi-entity consolidations. Over 50% of my audit work was in the healthcare industry. My audit clients included a well-known clinic in Temple, TX and a leading medical center in Dallas. I was active in the audit practice, serving as a recruiter and trainer of staff personnel within both the Dallas office and firm-wide. Based on outstanding performance evaluations, I was promoted to a supervisory audit position within 15 months of hire.
