    Ann DeMarle is a futurist with expertise in education, arts, technology, immersive media, and collaborative leadership. Since 2019 she has been a consultant applying communication technologies for social benefit working with: Images and Voices of Hope envisioning its future merger with Peace Studio; UNICEF Rwanda launching BREAKAWAY in the Mahama Refugee Camp; and with Population Media Center a similar program in Guatemala through Universidad Raphael Landívar.In her final initiative as the Director of Champlain College's EMC, she procured its first patent (US 10,632,380 B2. April 28, 2020) that lists students, faculty, and external partners as the inventors.In 2019 she consulted as Presidential advisor to foster and lead innovation across Champlain College. She successfully led the development of its 2030 Strategic Plan. This work was a through-line from marketing, admissions, and academics to alumni success, nurturing Champlain’s culture of academic innovation assuring it remains future forward, at the forefront of market innovation, and is relevant in a period of unprecedented change. The main threads of her role were: supporting faculty and staff in regards to creating curricular development; building a strong network of connections who can support collaboration and provide valuable feedback; and ensuring academic innovation provides value to students and employers. While serving, she created the foundation for the esports varsity team; collaboratively developed the plan to enhance summer academies for teens; with the Provost set groundwork for new academic programs; served on the Provost search committee and the 2030 campaign; and remains a member of the planning team in the Master Plan.An international speaker and volunteer, she served: an IEEE Computer Society governor, Images and Voices of Hope trustee, Stern Center for Learning and Language and Vermont Arts Council board member, and Vermont Creative Network advisory board member.

    Professor Ann DeMarle’s expertise is in learning, serious games, and emergent media. Defining herself as an “academic entrepreneur”, she founded Champlain College’s nationally ranked Game degrees, their predecessor in Multi-media and Design, its Emergent Media graduate program, and its MakerLab. From 2002-2011 she was the founding director of the Governor's Institute of Vermont in Information Technology for outstanding high school students. Upon receiving the Champlain College Perry Chair in 2006, she created the award-winning Emergent Media Center, a studio dedicated to partnerships for student technology innovation. Her partnerships include: Ford, ILMS, NEH, RWJ, and the UN. A project dear to her is the UN sponsored BREAKAWAY a game and curriculum addressing violence against women and girls. An international speaker and volunteer, she has served three times as a governor for the IEEE Computer Society, is a trustee for Images and Voices of Hope and has been a trustee for the Stern Center for Learning and Language, on the Vermont Arts Council, and on the advisory board for the Vermont Creative Network. In 2014 she received the college’s inaugural Dare Award. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator and twice was awarded an IBM Faculty Fellow.

    The Governor's Institute on Information Technology is a collaborative offering hosted by GIV and Champlain College. During the nine day institute, students explore 3D animation, web marketing and design, video, game design, html and object-oriented programming, and other computer fields. The curriculum is specifically designed to introduce students to a wide variety of skills in a collaborative, experiential, project-oriented format.
