      Professor Ann DeMarle’s expertise is in learning, serious games, and emergent media. Defining herself as an “academic entrepreneur”, she founded Champlain College’s nationally ranked Game degrees, their predecessor in Multi-media and Design, its Emergent Media graduate program, and its MakerLab. From 2002-2011 she was the founding director of the Governor's Institute of Vermont in Information Technology for outstanding high school students. Upon receiving the Champlain College Perry Chair in 2006, she created the award-winning Emergent Media Center, a studio dedicated to partnerships for student technology innovation. Her partnerships include: Ford, ILMS, NEH, RWJ, and the UN. A project dear to her is the UN sponsored BREAKAWAY a game and curriculum addressing violence against women and girls. An international speaker and volunteer, she has served three times as a governor for the IEEE Computer Society, is a trustee for Images and Voices of Hope and has been a trustee for the Stern Center for Learning and Language, on the Vermont Arts Council, and on the advisory board for the Vermont Creative Network. In 2014 she received the college’s inaugural Dare Award. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator and twice was awarded an IBM Faculty Fellow.
