    HIA is the national industry association for Australian building professionals and represents the interests of the building and construction industry at regional and national levels. My primary role is to provide information and clarification to members and HIA staff on legal and industrial relations issues. I am required to research the interpretation of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), and industrial instruments including state and federal awards, as they relate to award coverage and rates of pay. I must liaise with the Fair Work Ombudsman on interpretational aspects of award provisions. Furthermore, I am required to have a general understanding and ability to communicate contractual provisions in HIA standard building contracts to both the public and HIA members throughout Australia. Finally, I assist in overseeing the consumer complaints process, including drafting letters to assist in dispute resolution.
