I am leading the R&D team at Biospectal, where we are developing novel methods to estimate blood pressure based on optical signals. Our goal is to alleviate the global burden of cardiovascular disease and democratising blood pressure monitoring. By being part of a early start-up, I enjoy the opportunity to be exposed to every aspect that comes with developing a medical product. My range of responsibilities encompasses planning and managing the R&D team, monitoring of clinical trials, developing and executing on the R&D strategy, managing external technical partners, maintaining QMS documentation and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

I did my PhD at the hospital of the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, which is specialized in treating challenging types of cancer with proton therapy, with a strong focus on pediatric cases. The focus of my research was to to develop novel therapeutic modalities for advanced stage lung cancer based on emerging cutting-edge imaging technologies (4D CT, Hypoxia PET) and proton therapy. In a parallel project, I developed machine learning models to determine the risk for side effects of brain tumor treatments. My research output contributed to the development of personalized treatment strategies, by adapting patient treatment regiments through risk scores estimation based on patient-specific characteristics. Specifically, I helped implement clinical routines to aid in decision making to determine the most suitable treatment for a given patient. During my PhD, I supervised multiple master and bachelor thesis and tought Master level courses at ETH Zürich over multiple semesters.

In the context of my Master's, I worked in the Oncology Division of the Cincinnati's Chilrdrens' Hospital in Ohio, USA. At the intersection of physics, material science, and biology, my research focused on understanding the response of cancers cells when exposed to ionizing radiation, as is the case during the radiotherapy treatment. Specifically, I managed lyphoma cell lines and evaluated their mitochondrial response to irradiation through diverse techiques including confocal microscopy, PCR, Flow cytometry or gel electrophoresis. For this purpose, I developed a 3D-printed, modulable holder for cell culture irradiation essays that is now routinely used by other members in the group.
