I am first generation college student. During my first year of college, I received advice that aided me in my transition from my peers and faculty members. I knew I would able to provide the same assistance to incoming students like myself and realized how valuable a student mentor-mentee relationship was. As a CAS Proud to Be First Mentor, I worked with my 15 mentees to schedule individual meetings, plan large scale social and academic events and send out biweekly emails with helpful resources that targeted my mentees' interest. My ultimate goal as a mentor was to ensure that the first year, first generation students I worked with had a smooth transition into their college career.
