Board member of the Big Santa Anita Canyon Permittee's Association, BSACPA, that helps raise awareness of concerns and needs of a 50+ member association of cabin owners that coordinate with multiple government agencies and several private businesses to improve our experience as neighbors and fellow stewards of a century old tradition in Southern California. As a permit holder from the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, i have come to enjoy a really unique and fun part of the Angeles National Forest near our home in Big Santa Anita Canyon. We have a group of cabin permit users that own recreational cabins in an area that requires walking 1+ mile to your cabin, living mainly off grid, and working with nature and the elements as we enjoy our rustic cabins in the woods. In my case, we have stone cabin in a large clearing with one main room and a large fireplace. Working with our fellow cabin owners and friends, we hold regular meetings, share tips and guidance, communicate with the government groups and agencies to address questions and needs of our neighbors.

IT Support
-
Mar 2004 - Dec 2009
At Bain and Company I worked in the Los Angeles office of a global company managing all manner of technology services and support. Our internal group, named Technology Services Group, handled all local IT needs including phone system maintenance, server management, email and mobile data integration with Blackberry systems, WAN/LAN management and every related need for a highly mobile workforce using a combination of local and regional teams for round the clock support and repair tracking. Heavy involvement in customer service and training, purchasing and procurement and the build out of a second floor office space and corresponding 'move' of all employees. We went through 2 major server system upgrades (Windows 2k Server and Linux) as well as 3 major desktop re-deployments. While at Bain I also supported the build out of our New Delhi offices and regional work in San Francisco and Boston. I am most proud of receiving the "Spirit of Bain" award 3 times as voted on by my customers and colleagues.

Contract IT work

Jul 2003 - Mar 2004

Irvine, California
Working for a national contracting firm I was sent to Broadcom's corporate headquarters in Irvine California to work on a full deployment of Windows XP and MS Office. In a team environment worked to collect, back up and re-build 600+ desktop systems across the enterprise and ensured quality control by using world class migration tools including Ghost, Active Directory and in house data collection. One especially challenging part of this job was the many customized software tools in use by the clients. This non-standardization required heavy emphasis on correctly checking licensing and permission tools to prevent 'license-creep' across the organization.

IT Support
-
Jan 1998 - Mar 2003
At Deloitte Consulting I worked within the internal IT department to handle all aspects of the computing environment including procurement, training, customer support, incident tracking, elevating systemic issues to a national support team, working in partnership with the larger Deloitte & Touche group on infrastructure and network needs. During my 5 years we managed a full office move, 3 hardware migration cycles and a dramatic increase in mobile applications as access to the Internet transformed global consulting work. Towards the end of my time at Deloitte, we built an independent operating company called Braxton that failed to split from the parent company. Shortly afterwards I left the company.

At Wedbush I enjoyed the opportunity to begin working with 'real world' uses of computers after 2+ years of hardware and software repair. Hired initially to assist with technical support I worked to improve my skills in networking and became the Novell network admin. At this time, our computer environment was not using TCP/IP (Windows 3.1 was the lay of the land) and our systems comprised of linking desktop terminal emulation to the IBM mainframe as well as managing 3270 terminals at some departments. Exposed to the mainframe world I remained in shock that people didn't want to buy Windows 95 and join the future of computing on the internet. We managed limited roll outs of Windows 95 using floppy disk installations (no fun). Little did I realize how rapidly things were changing at the time. After 1 year, I began to work directly with a department at Wedbush that handled stock broker services for outside financial advisers. These companies dialed into our terminal services to access the trading systems and I spent my days doing telephone based customer support for them. As a smaller IT department, we had the opportunity to support our 8 person team and I learned a number of things about the IT industry and my role within it. I consider my experience at Wedbush to be deeply influential on my career as it made me conversant in the tools that businesses used.
