Canoe Trip Guide
-
Jun 2022 - Aug 2022
In June I planned a 22-day canoe trip, along with one other staff member, that travelled through Kipawa, Quebec, crossed the Ottawa River into Temagami. The planning of this trip included creating the route, taking into account the age & skill-set of the campers & other factors that would impact how fast we would move in a day. I was also responsible for counting meals & making sure we would have enough food for each day, packing everything, etc... In July we completed this trip with seven 13 & 14 year-olds, which we were responsible for their health, safety & wellbeing throughout our time together. We would generally move 20 - 30 km a day, depending on the conditions of the territory & weather. Other responsibilities included cooking meals over a fire (excpt. lunch & most breakfasts), map reading, setting up tarp structures & tents, etc... I am also required to have my Wilderness First Aid, Bronze Cross & CPR B, Emergency First Aid, Psychological First Aid - Caring for Others & Self-Care. In August I lead a few shorter canoe trips with younger kids, although the responsibilities that I had were the same. While in-camp I was tasked with maintenance jobs.
