Journeyman Lineman
-
Aug 2006 - Jan 2020
As a Journeyman Lineman, I have had the joy of maintaining and constructing the electrical grid in the San Diego County area. Whether it was climbing a 230 KV tower in the Imperial Valley to change out a set of damaged V-string insulators or rubber gloving the 4 KV off the pole to change out a cross arm in the San Diego State University area, being a Journeyman Lineman is something that I take great pride in. I like to look back at the end of the job seeing something that I would be proud to put on display for any lineman to see. Working safely, to keep the lights on for the citizens of the greater San Diego area brought a great sense of fulfillment to the long days and cold nights away from the comforts of home and my family. Working to restore service to the San Diego area after the 2003 and 2007 wildfires that devastated the county was humbling. Rebuilding the system while people were sifting through ash that was once their home was heart breaking. Though I could not take away those peoples pain, it was rewarding to labor day and night to restore service restoring at least a small degree of normalcy in an otherwise heartbreaking scene. Though I work as a supervisor now, I still look at every job with the eyes of a lineman. I still take pride in doing a good job for the crews I work with as we work together to get the work done. I find it very important to keep my skills as a Journeyman shape and always available for the moment I might be called back into duty.

Relief Troubleman
-
Mar 2010 - Mar 2015
From 2010 to 2015 I had the opportunity to work as a Relief Trouble Man as SDG&E. During this time I worked for a year in the Metro district and experienced the complex circuitry of Downtown San Diego. Being a first responder gave me the opportunity to work alone in high stress situations having to protect the public harm while working to minimize impacts to the electrical system. The position requires a high level of integrity as I worked alone and was in control of my daily schedule. I enjoyed working with customers to try to help resolve their electrical issues and found great joy in restoring service to customers of SDG&E.
