I am a summer scholar at the Nemours A.I. duPont Children's Hospital SURP, where I take part in a fulltime research project, journal clubs, and various other seminars and opportunities. I am a research assistant in the Alderfer Lab, where I conduct biopsychosocial research on siblings of children with pediatric cancer as well as on siblings of children with congenital heart disease to determine their trajectories post diagnosis. I also shadow physicians and surgeons in the hospital.

As a member of a scientific team at the NIP, I am responsible for conducting research on biomarkers involved in gliomas and glioblastomas using collected tumor samples and cell lines. Current research includes identifying possible protein and miRNA biomarkers in these cancers. This research utilizes proteomic analysis and ultimately aims to discover biomarkers that help with diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Dot Blot assays, Western Blotting, In-gel digestion, lyophilisation, mass spectrometry, and IHC were learned and employed throughout my time.

Performed genomic analysis of unique cDNA from a species of duckweed (Landoltia punctata) in order to determine the function of the protein and see whether it was conserved in other species. Duckweed was examined as the organism of interest due to its potential of being used as a biofuel. My final sequence was published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database, with the clone tag ‘65DI4.12'. Polymerase Chain Reaction, Gel Electrophoresis, restriction enzyme digests, and bacterial plating, among many other techniques were utilized.
