    Spencers pioneered organised retail in India, at a time when foreign direct investment was allowed in multi-brand retailing. In partnership with Dairy Farm International of Hongkong, three retail formats were commissioned and my role as business development head, was to provide the right locations, design and infrastructure, to enable the company operate profitable outlets.~ Spencer's Hypermarkets - I had the distinction of starting India's first Hypermarket, called Giant Hypermarket, at Hyderabad. This highly profitable store is still operational, was closely studied, and replicated by all subsequent operators in India.~ Spencer's Supermarket - A joint venture with Dairy Farm International of Hong Kong, Spencer’s pioneered Organised Grocery retailing in India. Headquartered in Chennai, Supermarkets after establishing their viability were quickly rolled out across the country, by adopting a cluster strategy~ Health & Glow - Modeled on the lines of Guardian in Singapore, this joint venture with Dairy Farm International, brought in the concept of retailing health and beauty products in India. A small format of 1500 sft, it has proliferated in Malls and High Street locations ~ Music World - A stand-alone 4000 sft store, retailing CD's, Cassettes, Vinyls, DVD's and Accessories. Providing a unique ambience, the Concept Store was a resounding success, and paved the way for an entirely new generation of Music retailing in India.

    Project Manager at Oriental Hotels Ltd., a subsidiary of Indian Hotels Ltd. . Completed the construction of the tower block at Taj Malabar, Cochin, renovation of Fisherman's Cove, Chennai, and entire construction and interiors of Taj Residency (now Gateway) at Visakhapatnam. At Taj, all activities are contracted, with materials. The major responsibility then was coordinating the activities of various agencies, and certification for payment, to ensure that work progresses seamlessly. In addition, my job was to ensure that all works are of the finest quality, requiring minutest attention to details.

    Terraco Ltd., a Swedish Company, based at Cyprus, manufactured and marketed construction chemicals, adhesives and spray plaster all over Middle-East, and the Far-East. As part of the Marketing team, my role was to promote the products with various Indian contracting companies, then operating all over the Middle East. As Project Manager for Svenska Contractors, my role was to source and execute application contracts for Terraco products. In this role, I had undertaken subcontracting activities for Baghdad University at Iraq, apart from a series of other subcontracting assignments from Japanese contractors, doing major housing projects in Northern Iraq.

This was a large industrial development on 30 acres, housing the spare parts division, a mixture of RCC office buildings and industrial sheds, along with infrastructure development.
