    A job can be the first step towards health, recovery, and fulfillment. Employment First embodies the premise that people who want to work should be able to work. The program provides assistance to people who would otherwise be excluded from the workforce, enabling every person the opportunity to be independent and self-sufficient. In my role as Director, I draw on a diverse set of clinical and business skills leading programs and teams in engaging clients who are experiencing mental illness, homelessness, substance abuse and other barriers to employment in removing those barriers while prioritizing individual choice and self-determination. My primary responsibilities include:-Oversight and development of three programs designed to transform lives using the therapeutic and long-term benefits of competitive employment. > A Better Way - A collaborative program aimed at individuals experiencing homelessness and financially supporting themselves through panhandling activities who wish to transition into full or part-time employment. > Transitional Employment - A transitional program providing temporary employment to individuals living with a criminal background and mental illness. The program’s goal is to ready participants for competitive employment within the community and helping participants experience the therapeutic effects of stable employment on their recovery journey. >Altamont Bakery - A supportive employment program for individuals living in recovery, where participants are supported in their recovery with part-time work in a bakery.
