    As Publications Director / Graphic Designer for California Advocates Management Services (CAMS), I oversee a growing team of publications specialists responsible for all publications – both printed and electronic – for a number of California and National associations.CAMS provides management services for trade associations, where the association has a membership and an elected board of directors but no employees or physical office. CAMS’ offices and staff double as the offices and staff for such organizations as the California Mortgage Association, California Escrow Association, the California Judges Association, the Defense Counsel Associations of both Southern California and Northern California and Nevada, the California Association of Healthcare Underwriters, as well as many others. We provide a whole menu of services for our clients, including a physical location for small meetings and for association mail and phone calls, accounting services, membership database management, meeting planning, website maintenance, and publications such as magazines, newsletters, event brochures, membership directories, education materials, show signage, etc. My job as Publications Director and that of my team is to collect all member-supplied editorial materials for each publication and all advertising artwork, and then design and produce the actual layout of the publication, using desktop publishing and graphics software. I also create many of the illustrations throughout these publications, including the cover designs, etc. I am also responsible for maintaining electronic files of all board member photos and signatures (for use in publications), advertising artwork, corporate logos, archived publications, and so forth. I work directly with the print house and mail house to take the supplied raw articles and turn them into a printed publication and get them mailed to the membership. I also produce electronic versions of many of these for e-mail and web distribution.
