I managed the US Forest Service's Fire and Aviation Web site (http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/). During this period we completely re-designed the site. I was primarily responsible for developing the site's architecture and graphic appearance.

Interpretive Specialist

I was the interpretive lead for the Capitol Investment Team at Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. I directed the planning and design of interpretive exhibits and visitor information signs for several sites. From 1996 through 1999, I was also director of the Wallowa Mountains Visitor Center and the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest Coordinator with the Northwest Interpretive Association, overseeing several book sales areas on the forest, approving the expenditure of funds raised on the forest, and preparing or reviewing grant applications. I was also responsible for planning and design of interpretive projects for the Eagle Cap and Wallowa Valley ranger districts.I also guided the development of several short videos about Hells Canyon produced through a partnership with Idaho Public Television. I wrote, edited or contributed to several publications including the Hells Canyon Visitor Guide and the Wild and Scenic Snake River Boater's Guide for Hells Canyon NRA.

As the interpretive specialist for the Public Use Management Section in the Southeast Regional Office, I assisted over 100 National Wildlife Refuges and about 40 National Fish Hatcheries in 10 states, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Islands with interpretive planning projects (visitor center planning and exhibits, wayside signs and publications (including interpretive visitor orientation, and hunting and fishing regulations brochures).

I was the agency's Conservation Education Division Field Representative for 22 counties in the north central part of the state (which included Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill). I conducted a wide range of educational programs for schools, nature centers, parks, etc. for diverse audiences of all ages from pre-school through adults. I wrote news releases, feature articles for Wildlife in North Carolina Magazine, and coordinated news media coverage of Commission activities in the region. I also assisted with the design and staffing of many exhibits for special events (outdoor and conservation/hunting/fishing organization conferences and shows, etc.), for a state trout hatchery, and for the NC State Fair.
