• Regional Focus in Anthropology: Ancient Europe (KPU: ANTH 4502, Fall 2014). This course is designed to provide a general introduction to the archaeology and history of Ancient Europe, based on modern archaeological investigations, historical interpretations, and the complicated linguistic evidence at hand.• Introduction to Archaeology (ANTH 1300, Summer 2013), presenting a broad survey into the art of archaeology, with examples from the Old World and the New World.• Special Topic in Archaeology: Mesopotamia (KPU: ANTH 3503, Fall 2013). This course is intended to give students a good introduction into the archaeology of the Ancient Near East, in particular Mesopotamia and Syro-Palestine.• Special Topic in Anthropology: Ancient Egypt (KPU: ANTH 4502, Spring 2014; Spring 2016). This course deals with the anthropological theories of acculturation, assimilation, and creolization of ancient cultures, in particular the Asiatic MB IIA-C culture and the Egyptian material culture of the Middle Kingdom and the Second Intermediate Period.• Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology (KPU: ANTH 1100, Summer 2016, Spring 2017, Spring and Fall 2014, Summer 2015), being a general introduction to social and cultural anthropology and reviewing basic theories and addresses various topics such as economics, language, communication, marriage, family, political organization, and religion.

Critical overview of the major cultural developments in Africa from the origin of humankind to the rise of several ancient civilizations (Nubia, Kerma, Meroë, Chifumbaze complex, Jenné-Jeno, Nok, Ghana, Mali, Songhay, Great Zimbabwe, and the Swahili Civilisation), with special emphasis on Ancient Egypt.• Ancient Peoples and Ancient Places (ARCH 100-3, 2012 Terms 1+2; 2013, Term 2; 2015, Term 2, 2016, Term 3, 2017, Term 2). Broad survey of human cultural development from the late Palaeolithic/PalaeoIndian periods (ca. 40,000 BP) to the rise of civilization/empires in the Old and New Worlds, incl. Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Mexico, and Peru.

Archaeological evidence and theories for the origins and spread of settled village life, and food production systems.• Biblical Hebrew for Beginners (UBC: HEBR 101+102, Fall 2014 to Spring 2015). Introduction to the syntax and grammar of Biblical Hebrew, including a clear understanding of the verbal system.• Biblical Hebrew for Intermediate Students (UBC: HEBR 405, Fall 2013 to Spring 2014). Emphasis on rapid reading of Hebrew poetry and prose includes in-depth treatments of all verbal stems, parallels to cognate languages (e.g. Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite) and explains the historical background.• Archaeology of the Bible (UBC: RELG 316, online version). Co-authorship of online course, dealing with the Biblical records and its setting in the Ancient Near East and Egypt, as portrayed in extra-biblical sources and archaeological testimonies. Taught RELG 306 online in 2013, Term 1.• Prophecy and Kingship in Ancient Israel: The Prophetic Personality (UBC: NEST 303, 2013-2014, Term 1). The prophetic personality (e.g. Jeremiah, Amos, Jonah, etc.) in the light of their Ancient Near Eastern counterparts (Mari and Nineveh), definitions of “prophecy,” prophet “stories,” prophetic autobiographies as well as a sound historical background.• History of Ancient Egypt (UBC: NEST 303, 2012-2013, Term 2), presenting an overview over the most important stages in the long history of Ancient Egypt.• Introduction to Near Eastern and Egyptian Archaeology (NEST 101, Term 1), presenting an overview over the major archaeological discoveries of the Ancient Near East (Sumer, Akkad, Canaan, Ancient Israel, Assyria, Babylonia, Medo-Persia) and Ancient Egypt.• Art and Archaeology of Ancient Egypt (NEST 304/ARTH 325, Term 1). Overview of the most important artistic achievements of Ancient Egypt, as portrayed in art works from tombs, temples, palaces, houses, and funerary equipment.
