Lowe’s Customer Service Associate Dec 2014 – Sept 2015Worked as a front-end customer service associate at a Lowe’s hardware store. I worked to enhance customer satisfaction, to keep the front end clean and well stocked, and to process customer transactions. Tasks included using a cash register to complete transactions, answering customers’ questions regarding Lowes’ policies and procedures, adding on protection plans and encouraging customers to apply for credit, and giving basic home improvement advice. As part of this job I demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to utilize customer service skills to ensure repeat customers.

Conducted research into how nanostructures and suspended nanoparticles affect nucleate boiling for use in nuclear reactors. The end goal of this project is obtaining an accurate molecular dynamics model for nucleate boiling on a nanotailored surface. Work was done under the advice of Eugene Brown with funding from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. My tasks primarily consisted of gathering and applying prior research and developing a molecular dynamics simulation in a LAMMPS framework. I also prepared and delivered a lecture on the uses and importance of computational fluid dynamics software utilizing the package FLUENT to display the importance of high performance computing and simulation in practical engineering. This project is ongoing at Virginia Tech.

Research conducted in the Thermodynamic and Sustainable Energy Lab at Duke University under the advice of Dr. Nico Hotz. I researched the viability of a copper-based nanoparticle reactor for a solar powered steam-methanol reformation system. In addition, I worked on combining this system with a preferential oxidation reactor directly. My tasks included experimental design of a thermochemical system, technical device operation, experimental analysis, and preliminary theoretical work. I also received instruction on proper research procedures and ethics. Multiple presentations were given throughout the course of this project to a variety of audiences. This project is ongoing at Duke University.
