    The focus of the Knowledge Management team is to guide the business in the implementation of solutions that support delivery, to develop information management standards for use, and to share knowledge and best practices across the organisation. A team of industrial engineers looks at systems, especially systems related to project delivery, such as ProjectWise and Aconex. Another leg looks at platforms and enterprise taxonomies for effective knowledge sharing across our key operations, supporting decision making on a high level. Yet another team, made up of librarians and information specialists, is concerned with facilitating access to legal and technical information resources.

My main focus will be on providing support to knowledge communities of practice by helping to build and advise on knowledge portals; providing techncial and content support, and aligning the Knowledge and Information Centre services to the information needs of these communties.

    I am the coordinator of library and information services in Aurecon. This position was created after the merger of three engineering companies to become Aurecon: Africon and Ninham Shand in the RSA; and Connell Wagner in Australia. The main Knowledge and Information Centres are in Pretoria, Cape Town, and Sydney, with smaller repositories in some other offices. The alignment of practices of the different information centres and libraries has become necessary to enable access to valuable information resources scattered across the company. Based in Bloemfontein, I facilitate this. We have successfully merged the catalogues of six libraries (three in the Africa Middle East zone and three in Australia) to form a unified database, and we share subscriptions across all our regions - these include technical standards, eBooks and eJournals. The combined budget is my responsibiblity and I also maintain the Knowledge and Information Centre Homepage in SharePoint, contribute to knowledge management, and do research for Aurecon employees.
