Camp Killoqua: Naturalist & Facilitator
-
Sep 2005 - Dec 2007
-
Stanwood, Washington
September - December in 2005, 2006 & 2007 Created an environment that encourages students to become ecologically literate, responsible citizens, in an experiential learning environment. The curriculum had three main subject areas: Forest, Wetland and Wildlife Ecology. These subjects were studied while fostering critical-thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Students work individually, in small learning groups and as a large whole group. These varied work groups stress the importance of problem-solving on all levels, not just individual. In addition to studying ecology issues, students also participated in group dynamic exercises on the Killoqua challenge course. Facilitated students through a series of group initiatives which provide students the opportunity to understand how a group functions which they may apply to school, home and beyond. Other outdoor activities included outdoor climbing wall, archery, hiking, map & compass skills and canoeing.
