Production Coordinator

This position involved lots of multitasking. I scheduled sessions and coordinated production activities for Bernie Grundman, Mastering Engineer. Basically I coordinated the production of "masters" in a variety of formats (CD, vinyl, digital) for manufacturing and distribution. In addition, I handled technical specifications, billing and logistics for a wide variety of clients from the music and film industries. I prepared pricing quotes and work orders according to client specifications and was responsible for pushing mastering projects to completion in a timely manner. I set up daily workflow for mastering engineers and production staff. Meeting deadlines was a daily priority. The job involved daily interaction with music artists, agents, producers, managers and record company reps in person, over the phone and by email. This was a high-energy, fast-paced occupation; it fueled my passion for music in a big way, and I was honored to be a part of the process of bringing creative works of art to the public.

After about 5 years of writing novels and short stories and finding little success or enjoyment, I thought I'd try my hand at screenwriting. For about two years, I wrote comedy movie scripts on spec. I worked hard to sell them and to get an agent to represent me, but was unsuccessful on both counts. I still enjoy writing very much, but from the experience of working at it consistently, I learned that I don't quite love it enough to do it for a living, day-in, day-out. Also, the business of being a working writer in Hollywood is extremely cutthroat, and that did not appeal to me at all. To play the game of screenwriting, you must have nerves of steel and the ability to endure an extremely convoluted (and frustrating) process of selling your work in a marketplace where "no" is the common answer you will hear from those whom you seek to fund your work. To succeed, I found out you MUST be absolutely, 100% IN-LOVE with the work itself.
