We were established in 1971 as Victoria’s environmental regulator. We are an independent statutory authority, with a Governing Board appointed by the Governor-in-Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Environment and Climate Action. Our role is to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on Victorians and the environment.
