Overview

BIT (formerly known as for Italian Cultural Center) is an umbrella non-profit organization (TAX ID: 52-2169101) founded in 1955 as a home for Italian immigrants to be free to speak their language, pass on their culture to their children and build bridges with Italy through various arts programs. Through the years it became a home for all immigrants and a place for Baltimoreans and Marylanders, Italophiles and not, that want to stay connected through art and food. During the years the organization has evolved and in the last decade added strong community programs that are predominantly addressing Social Drivers of Health, while keeping the art and culture part intact. The Art Gallery will reopen on May 31st, 2023 and will continue to host various events including the Caffe Letterario speakers series, interrupted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The new In Cucina space for cooking classes will open in the summer of 2023. Through the combination of its art programs and community programs, Be a Chef for a Day (a community food program and an award winning education program in partnership with Morgan State University School of Community Health and Policy and the Fondazione Dieta Mediterranea) and B-More Pasta (a social enterprise that employs resident youth between the age of 14 and 24), BIT works tirelessly to ensure that the next generations will have indispensable tools to achieve community health and wealth.
