Overview

Take a journey through American history like never before. Follow the through-lines of American history through the lens of Jewish experience from 1654 to the present day through our core galleries, programs and events, and rotating special exhibitions. Our mission is to connect Jews more closely to their heritage and to inspire in people of all backgrounds a greater appreciation for the diversity of the American Jewish experience and the freedoms to which Americans aspire. Originally founded in 1976 by the members of the historic Congregation Mikveh Israel, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is the only museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to exploring and interpreting the American Jewish experience. Throughout its three decades-plus of existence, the Museum has amassed the largest collection of Jewish Americana in the world. The Museum is a vital component to cultural life in Philadelphia and beyond, providing public programs that explore American Jewish identity through lectures, authors’ talks, films, children’s activities, and so much more.
