QUINTA DO ESCUDIAL - A EXCELÊNCIA EM VINHOS "SEM MADEIRA" ESCUDIAL, nome por certo evocador das lutas em jogos florais dos fidalgos da Civitas ou das cavalhadas pelo S. João e das festas em honra dos grandes da Pátria. Veio o tufão e derrubou a grande Pinheira e o Escudial ficou sem aquele rei de entre serras, alto de arrancas estendidas a cobrir muita terra, para regalo dos povos, em dias festivos. Quando o tufão derrubou o pinheiro gigantesco do Bussaco, o Dr. Alfredo Augusto de Frias de Eça Ribeiro, proprietário do Escudial, passava mesmo ao lado dessa Pinheira. E como nada tivesse sofrido, logo ali decidiu mandar edificar uma capelinha, pois atribuiu aquele facto a um milagre. A QUINTA do ESCUDIAL inicialmente com 3,5 hectares de vinhas velhas foi em 2003 ampliada com mais 3 hectares de vinha com as castas tradicionais do Dão (Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen e Tinta Roriz). QUINTA DO ESCUDIAL - THE EXCELLENCE IN "UNOAKED" WINES" ESCUDIAL, a name that clearly evokes the floral games of city fidalgos, the traditional battles on Midsummer's Eve and festivals in honour of great figures from Portuguese history. A storm blew down the Great Cedar and Escudial thus losing its tall king of the hills, whose spreading branches had been much appreciated by the crowds on feast days. When the gigantic tree fell down, Alfredo Augusto de Frias de Eça Ribeiro, the owner of Quinta do Escudial, was walking right past it. And as he suffered no injury, he immediately decided to build a chapel in recognition of what he considered a miracle. The original 3.5 hectares of older vines at Quinta do Escudial have been joined in 2003 by a further 3 hectares of vineyards planted with traditional Dão varieties (Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Tinta Roriz).
