Overview
The Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement is one of the 8 Metis Settlements in Alberta. We are in the northwest corner of the province between the Peace River and the 6th meridian along the 27th baseline. The land base of the settlement is 429,671 acres, populated by a variety of wildlife and various species of boreal vegetation. The natural resources that are most commonly developed on the settlement are timber harvesting, natural gas production and farming. However, most recently we have developed several different solar projects on the settlement subsidizing the power consumption of our buildings. The largest being a 240 panel install at our water treatment plant and an 80 panel install at our community arena. The Paddle Prairie School has approximately 120 students from Carcajou, Keg River and Paddle Prairie offering both academic and CTS courses from ECS-Grade 12. The population of Paddle Prairie is approximately 800 with many more calling it home, as it is a community of families and memories. The traditional lands of Paddle Prairie are vast, and the community still practices many of the traditions today.
