Overview

NAACP Newark NJ, the largest branch in the state has been serving the community since 1914. With a members of 1500+ members, NAACP Newark is primarily an advocacy based volunteer organization . It is an affiliate of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the largest and oldest civil right organization in the nation established in 1909. The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. General Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers who inform and address current issues. The meeting are open to the public as well as members. While civil rights and civic engagement remain a major focus, the Newark NJ Branch is also involved in a wide spectrum of initiatives, NAACP sponsored programs and partnerships throughout the year directed toward the strengthening of the economic, cultural, social and quality of life issues in the greater Newark community. Your support is needed to strengthen NAACP Newark for a second century. Much has changed over the past 100 years...but much has not! The struggle continues and so must we!
