National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, support and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need. Mission and Goals NAMI Northside Atlanta affiliate is a support, education and advocacy organization made up of individuals living with a mental illness and their families and friends. We offer Recovery Support Groups designed for people living with a mental disorder as well as Family Support Groups for their loved ones. NAMI Northside Atlanta also provides a Peer-to-Peer educational course for individuals who live with a mental disorder, a 12- week Family-to-Family course for family caregivers of adults with a mental disorder and a six-week NAMI Basics educational course for parents and other primary caregivers of children and adolescents living with a mental disorder. Our goals are: • To provide support, education and advocacy for persons who have mental illness and their families. • To work toward an improved quality of life for children, adolescents and adults with a mental disorder and their families. • To bring awareness to our communities to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. • To advocate for persons with mental illness at the local, state and national level.
