Overview
We promote responsible journalism – fair, accurate, sensitive and inclusive. The Media Diversity Institute (MDI) is an international organisation entirely devoted to working with the media to improve reporting on ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality and other diversity issues which can cause inequality/intolerance/disputes at the local, national, regional or international level. Although the media often aggravate divisions in society, exclude moderate voices, and foment conflict, they also possess an enormous capacity to contribute to the solution of these very problems. MDI promotes responsible journalism as a means to improve inter-community relations, increase tolerance, and encourage dialogue among individuals and groups coming from different backgrounds. We work with journalism academics and students, media decision makers and reporters, as well as with CSOs specialized in diversity issues. We promote responsible journalism – fair, accurate, sensitive and inclusive. Over the last 10 years MDI has worked in Western, Eastern, and South East Europe, the former Soviet States, West Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
