Overview

MIF is the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events. The Festival is staged every two years in Manchester, UK. We launched in 2007 as an artist-led festival presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. We’ve commissioned, produced and presented world premieres by artists as diverse as Björk, David Lynch, Steve McQueen, Philip Glass, Skepta, Robert Wilson, Wayne McGregor, Maxine Peake, The xx, Zaha Hadid Architects, Damon Albarn, Punchdrunk and Marina Abramović, among many others. We offer local artists, students and communities creative development opportunities all year round: from traineeships to inviting Greater Manchester residents to host their own Festival in My House. As we head towards The Factory, we’re committed to supporting the next generation of technicians, producers and arts professionals of all backgrounds through The Factory Academy. We are now preparing for The Factory, a year-round home for MIF at the heart of the city. Inspired by our city’s unmatched history of innovation, it will present bold new work by the world’s most exciting artists. A place to create, invent and play, The Factory is where the art of the future will be made.
