Irish Girl Guides

Overview

We enable girls and young women to develop to their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world. Irish Girl Guides (IGG) is a dynamic youth organisation providing educational activities for girls and young women aged 5-30 in an informal environment and exciting leader opportunities for women over 18. IGG is a registered charity in Ireland and is compliant with the Governance Code and the Principles of Fundraising. We have a strong emphasis on teamwork, community responsibility, outdoors and environment. Girls develop confidence and independence through activities and challenges. We actively promotes diversity and inclusion. Our volunteer leaders have teamwork and leadership skills and a significant cross transferable skillset, which is relevant and valuable not just in a volunteering capacity, but in the workplace and wider society too. Units meet on a weekly basis and are run by local volunteer leaders who are given training and support from other volunteers and staff. There are four different branches defined by the differing age brackets. And from the age of 18 onwards, you can be a leader with the Irish Girl Guides. There’s something for everyone! In Ireland we feel it is important to network and share with other organisations and are members of the National Youth Council of Ireland and The Wheel. As we are part of a worldwide movement (W.A.G.G.G.S) of over 10 million girls and young women in over 150 countries, the girls' awareness of global issues and sense of solidarity with their fellow Guides around the globe is increased. The girls learn all about campaigning and advocacy and there are also wonderful travel opportunities and camps abroad for Guides (10-14 years) and Senior Branchers (14-30 years). Guiding encourages the best in people; it gives you the opportunity to discover new ideas, new skills, new experiences and new friendships. Volunteering with IGG is a fun, challenging and rewarding experience. RCN: 20206301
