Overview
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. There are more than 421,000 IEEE members in more than 160 countries and IEEE publishes a third of the world’s technical literature in electrical engineering, computer science and electronics and is a leading developer of international standards that underpin many of today's telecommunications, information technology and power generation products and services. The IEEE Region 8 was formed on 8th January, 1963. Originally, it comprised of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The rest of the world (besides North America) was all Region 9 at that time, until in 1966, Region 9 was limited to South America and the Asia-Pacific and the majority of Africa became Region 10. The rest of Africa was transferred from Region 10 to Region 8 in 1981.
