Overview

Our association was founded more than 30 years ago - at that time as "Service RBS asbl" - on the initiative of the Luxembourg Ministry of Family Affairs and still works closely with it today. The change of name to "GERO - Kompetenzzenter fir den Alter" (Competence Centre for Ageing) makes even clearer in the future the general task of setting important innovative impulses throughout the country in order to positively shape life in old age. GERO's events, projects and publications are aimed at older people and all those who are interested in the topic of successful ageing - on a personal as well as professional level. The approach of our initiatives is innovative, participative, progressive and diverse. The aim is to keep the state of knowledge on the topic of ageing up to date in this country - also thanks to our international cooperation partners. We want to make this knowledge accessible to the broadest public in a clear and low-threshold way. GERO is derived from the term gerontology, the science of ageing. Old age with all its facets is the focus of the three GERO core departments: geroAKTIV, geroPRO and geroRESEARCH. Projects around the topic of ageing are becoming increasingly important and are implemented by our multidisciplinary team together with professional partners and senior volunteers. Acceptance and tolerance are our guiding principles, as well as practical experience and a scientifically founded approach.
