From 2019-2023 I worked as Coordinator of "Clubs Seniors" at "GERO - Kompetenzzenter fir den Alter", a national agency providing among others activities for senior citizens as well as training for individuals working in the area of gerontology. I coordinated the 23 "Clubs Seniors", whose mission it is to promote and offer "Active Ageing" activities. Activites are very varied, and may include leisure activities such as: sports, cultural and social activities (e.g. travelling together, museum visits), life-long-learning (language, music and other), intercultural activities , intergenerational activities, cooking, sewing, etc. Show less

Sep 2013 - Aug 2014
PhD in African Studies. 'Tracing international policy networks'. Part of INZI (Investigating networks of zoonosis control): Looking at Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) in West Africa, focusing on the (re)negotiation of policy and disease etiology through the relationship(s) between international/national organisations and individuals on the ground. After one year of successfully taking four courses for credit, attending a Médecins Sans Frontières conference in Paris, a 3 day NVivo workshop, and completing an extensive literature review, I discontinued my PhD voluntarily having realised that a career in academia is not for me and that I rather wish to apply my skills in a more practical manner. I have worked in a care home for the elderly during my summer holidays for three subsequent years. Here, I acquired team-working skills and improved my communication skills, understanding that simply talking to residents and offering comfort can contribute to better health. My work consisted of assisting care workers with activities and individual care of the residents. Moreover, I independently led small reading, playing and story-telling workshops, which improved my leadership skills and ability to take responsibility. This work reinforced my interest in understanding and improving the health of elderly people. Show less
