Franklin County Engineer's Office

Civil Engineering

Overview

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office is responsible for constructing and maintaining 800 lane miles of county roadway including over 350 bridges and 185 culverts. We continually make improvements to our infrastructure of roads and bridges to meet the changing transportation needs of the county. The county engineer’s office utilizes the latest technologies for surveying, tax map maintenance, and land record keeping. Our use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) to create a network of survey monuments enables surveyors to perform accurate surveys of properties, corporate and township boundaries, and road rights-of-way. It is also the foundation for the development of our comprehensive county road map and atlas that are available to the public. The maps and atlases are free of additional costs. The County Engineer is assisted by 200 engineering, maintenance, and administrative personnel in carrying out the responsibilities of the office. Departments include Construction, Bridge Design, Highway Design, Highway Maintenance, Surveying, and Traffic Engineering.
